Saving Grocery Shopping Secrets

Deciding what to make for dinner and going shopping for fresh ingredients regularly used to be a luxury. Now I find it to be a chore, as the less time I spend doing errands the the happier I am. After having my daughter, I created a whole new system in our household to save time and to create a more efficient process around grocery s tiffanys hopping.

I typically only go to the grocery store once a month. Yes, once a month. tiffanys I find that not only does this save me valuable time, I also save money by having a solid list to guide me. I have the added incentive that our local coop market offers a 10% discount on one shopping trip per month, so I am sure to stock up on everything we’ll use.

Her tiffanys e are four of my best time saving grocery shopping tips:

1. Create a master grocery list. Before your next shopping trip, make an electronic shopping list that you can save and add to each time you shop. That way you have a running list of the items you usually buy. My worksheet document is organized by aisle (roughly) as well as the quantity I need to buy. I print a few copies of the list to keep in my kitchen. As I run out of items, I just make a note on the printed copy. I keep this together with my coupons and reusable bags so everything is ready to go to the store with me.

2. Always buy a backup. I don’t have the storage space in my house for giant warehouse quantities of the basics like trash bags and toilet paper. However, I always buy at least one backup item of my shelf stable pantry staples, such as sunflower seed butter and walnut oil. That way I don’t need to rush out to the store when I run out of what’s in use. Having a backup also keeps my pantry well stocked so I have all the items I need to pull healthy recipes together, often at the last minute.

3. Utilize your farmer’s market. One of our family’s favorite activities is regularly going to the farmers’ market. We also receive a Community Supported Agriculture Box (CSA) on a weekly basis. Through our CSA program, we receive a large box of fresh, mostly local, organic produce direct from the farm to our door. This cuts down on last minute trips to the store for perishable items and keeps us stocked with lots of healthy choices at all times.

Going to the store alone is just a bonus timesaver, I realize that it is not always realistic to go without the kids, but you might be able to swing it once a month and get the bulk of your shopping accomplished. Think about all the tiffanys other things you could tackle if you had one less errand to run!

Saving Green on Mulch and Other Landscaping Supplies

With spring almost half over and temperatures rising, I decided allergies or no allergies, this weekend was the time to start my mulch project for the year. Even if yard work is not your cup of tea, it is something that we all must face, as it helps to keep our real estate values higher.

Landscaping is good physical work, and provides an instant gratification in that you can see what you have accomplished. But with every good, there is a bad, and the biggest bad for me is the cost of supplies. Outside of hiring someone to do your landscaping, there is nothing you can do about the sweat required to maintain your yard. (Unless you were my parents, you would just have had more kids!) Fortunately, there are a few cost savings on supplies.

While, the bags are convenient, they quickly can deplete your landscaping budget. Some bags can run as much as $5 a bag. I think we have all made this mistake at some point, in our lives. I myself have vowed to not do this again. I overspent and bought way too many bags.

Know how much you need. Take the square footage of the area (Length x width) and multiply by the number of inches you intend to put out. Divide this number by 324 and this is how many cubic yards you need. For example, an area 20×30 = 600 sq ft x 2 inches deep = 1200; 1200/ 324 = 1.85 cubic yards needed.

Do your research, call some landscaping firms. Ask if they can deliver and the cost. Compare the bulk delivered cost to the bags. (A cubic yard is 14 two cubic feet bags or 9 three cubic feet bags)

If the minimum amount to be delivered is too much for your yard, ask a neighbor if they’d be interested in splitting the costs and spread the savings.

Other products you can buy in bulk include top soil, wood chips and gravel.

2. Seasonal Maintenance is a Necessity

If you keep up with the removal of weeds and leaves and turning the mulch you may get two years out of it, vs. just one. By neglecting to remove leaves from mulch beds, the snow falls, and then your mulch is matted and discolored.

It is best t tiffanys o take care of what you have, no matter how long you may have it, as it will last longer.

3. Coupons

This area is near and dear to my heart, as an avid coupon clipper, it might just surprise you that in deed you can save on landscaping with coupons. My local Ace offers a coupon of $ 5 off of $ 25 every month, but there are other areas as well to find deals for local landscaping companies. For instance, this past week, I viewed numerous coupons in my local newspaper and yellow pages. Some coupons you might normally overlook, but some firms but in coupons hoping for new lawn business, but as one local company told me all business is good, because if you only buy mulch from me, maybe if you ever need anything else, you’ll call me as well. The coupons ranged from Free Delivery if you buy 5 cubic yards, Buy 5 get one free and a 10% off purchase.

4. Check for Freebies

Did you know that some cities/towns can be a free source of landscaping supplies? Some examples, towns give away trees that need to be transplanted, or distribute excess supplies purchased to get a better price. Phone your city government office to see if this is provided.

Another source is to ask the county and tree removal services for their tree mulch as all clean up has to be removed from property and some people are just looking for a place to go. Just last year, we had a tree remover stop to ask us if we wanted a load of firewood. It wasn’t just one load that we received; it was a dump truck full. Some of our best family times are spent around the fire pit.

5. Can’t give up the bags?

If you think bags are easier, than shop for torn bags most stores will give them to you at 50% off. The downfall with this is you can’t get them all at once, but if you do one bed or area at a time this might be your best option. Just remember to take a throw for your trunk.

6. Don’t forget to price shop

In order to ensure an efficient comparison process, do the following:

Get It in Writing: Take Proof and Ask: Present your quotes to competitors as you do your price comparisons. Many competitors will price match, but only if you can prove it in writing. This doesn’t just have to be a sales ad. Price Matching isn’t just at Wal mart anymore!! Closing Thought

tiffanys As I sit here, looking for deals on allergy medicin tiffanys e, a few closing thoughts. If you rent or own a home you should take pride in its curb appeal. By thinking before you spend, and knowing your budget, you should be able to get everything you need without overspending. A little green goes along way!
